Air Fried Teriyaki Salmon

I won’t lie to you guys, it took me a long time to enjoy salmon.

I didn’t grow up in a household that eats fish so I didn’t have a lot of exposure as a kid. When I did finally start to try it, I thought it tasted much like the lake water that got pushed up my nose every summer when I got flipped off the back of an inner tube.

Knowing that exposure is half the battle of getting used to a food, I started making more and more fish, especially because my husband loves it and I always knew he’d eat my portion if I still wasn’t ready!

Eventually, I tried a version of this recipe and fell head over heals in love. The salmon isn’t ‘fishy’ tasting. The sweetness of the sauce is so delicious. And the air fryer gives it this slightly crispy outer layer that makes me crave this dish all the time. Even my kid is a huge fan! (Need an air fryer? I got you!)

Note: Salmon doesn’t have to taste like a lake if it is cooked properly! For the best flavor without being over or under cooked, aim for opaque and slightly pinkish white on the outside and translucent pink on the inside.

Ingredients

  • 4 (4 oz) salmon fillets

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

  • Sesame seeds, to garnish

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger and cornstarch. Mix until combined.

2. Heat an air fryer to 375°F. I like to brush the bottom of mine with a bit of olive oil to make sure the filets don’t stick!

3. Season both sides of the salmon with salt and pepper. Place in the air fryer and cook for about 6 minutes.

4. Brush the teriyaki sauce over the salmon fillets and cook for an additional 3 minutes, or until cooked through to your preference.

5. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve hot. Enjoy this delicious fish!

Note: Not interested in making your own teriyaki sauce? No problem-o. Hop over to the grocery section of the store to look for already made sauces and just use that to cut your ingredients and prep time!
